The first national Honey Show will be held in Mzuzu, Malawi on 7 – 8 November 2024. It will bring beekeepers from across Malawi to showcase their bee products and to tell the story of their organisation or business.
Beekeepers will present their products with the theme of “Bee Sustainable: People. Planet. Profit.” demonstrating the sustainability and opportunity of beekeeping. Beekeepers will show the power of bees for conservation, livelihood support, and economic development.

Many countries host an annual Honey Show or Honey Week, bringing beekeepers together and showcasing bee products from across the country. Honey shows give beekeepers the opportunity to establish business partnerships, collaborate, and share knowledge.
Bees for Development, in collaboration with GiZ and Winrock, are organising this Honey Show in Mzuzu, Malawi. The show will include a day of bee product displays and discussions around the constraints and opportunities facing the Malawi beekeeping industry. A second day will be dedicated to discussing the importance of a national association to organise the industry, raise the profile of beekeeping nationally, and build the capacity of beekeeping members across the country. The second day will be led by the Malawi Bee Products Association (MBPA), a network of beekeepers who have taken over the Malawi Beekeepers Association which ceased activity.

An important part of the Malawi Honey Show is creating connections. Bees for Development is supporting Dickson Biryomumaisho – the Executive Director of The Uganda National Development Organisation (TUNADO), to attend the show. Dickson will be a key speaker, discussing TUNADO’s challenges and successes over the last 20 years. TUNADO is one of the most successful national associations in Africa, and has over 300 members, representing tens of thousands of beekeepers across the country. You can read more about TUNADO here.
