Bees for Development has been involved with numerous initiatives in India
During 2006-2009 we undertook FAO Project work to develop the beekeeping sector in Karnataka State. This Project sought to emphasise the value of indigenous Apis cerana beekeeping, and to recognise the value of, and consider the sustainability of Apis dorsata honey hunting.
Working for ICIMOD (International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development) in Kathmandu, we have undertaken evaluation of beekeeping development endeavours in Himachal Pradesh.
Our main partner organisation in India is the Keystone Foundation in Kotagiri, Tamil Nadu, with whom we have undertaken a number of activities, including a Darwin Initiative Project Bees, Biodiversity & Forest Livelihoods in the Nilgiris Biosphere Reserve, between 2007 and 2009.
This project is supported through funding from The Commonwealth Professional Fellowship programme, a UK government-funded programme to support mid-career professionals from low and middle income Commonwealth countries to spend time at a UK host organisation on a programme of professional development.
