Training deaf beekeepers to make beehives

TUNADO, The Uganda Apiculture National Development Organisation, are training a group of Deaf beekeepers based in Jinja, Uganda this week. They’ve been learning how to make their own local style hives.

Note: some of the posters used have been specifically adapted for use by Deaf and also illiterate beneficiaries. TUNADO have worked with a local illustrator and three focus groups of Deaf beneficiaries to develop them. This is the first real ‘field test’ of the materials.

The project, “Beekeeping to economically empower people with disabilities in Uganda” is a partnership with The Uganda Apiculture National Development Organisation (TUNADO). With funding from The National Lottery Community Fund, we are helping people with hearing and visual impairments gain the benefits of beekeeping.
