Morning Workshop
Lynfa Davies – Getting started in Beekeeping.

Starting any new hobby is really exciting but it can also be a bit daunting when faced with new terminology and a potential shopping list as long as your arm. In this workshop, which is aimed at new beekeepers, we will discuss what equipment you need and where to get it from. We will also talk about sourcing bees responsibly and the important things to look for when caring for your new bees in those first few months and beyond. If you are looking for some practical guidance on how to get started then this workshop will help you. Each attendee will be provided with a pack of WBKA booklets.
Lynfa Davies, Master Beekeeper, NDB, is an experienced beekeeper from near Aberystwyth. She is an active member of Aberystwyth Beekeepers Association and a member of the WBKA Learning and Development Committee. She regularly leads training sessions for beekeepers on a variety of topics and she also writes articles for the beekeeping press.
Afternoon Workshop
Paul Boyle – Honey Showing.
2.00 – 3.30.
Paul started beekeeping in 2007 and soon afterwards started showing honey. He qualified as a Beemaster in 2013 and won 2 first places at The National Honey Show the same year.
He sits on the Executive Council of The National Honey Show and is also its trade hall co-ordinator. He qualified as an Irish honey judge in 2017 and, in 2019 and 2023, he was accepted as a Honey Judge at the World Beekeeping Awards.
The WBKA wants to encourage more members to enter honey shows, including the show which is run by the RWAS at its prestigious Agricultural Show in July. Whether you are already showing, or thinking about starting, Paul will share his expertise to help you succeed.
Attendees will take away some relevant resources.
