The Big Give Christmas Challenge 2023 – Helping Young Ethiopians Save For Their Future

Bees for Development will once again be taking part in the Big Give Christmas Challenge 2023 which launches on Tuesday 28th November and runs till Tuesday 5th December. All donations made to Bees for Development through the Big Give Christmas Challenge at this time will be doubled, massively increasing our ability to support our amazing work.

This year our aim is to raise £100,000 for our ‘Helping Young Ethiopians Save for their Future’ campaign. This would make a significant difference to the impact we can achieve in our work in Ethiopia to help young people save for their future.

Rural youth in Ethiopia are facing deep poverty due to landlessness. Without land, people cannot farm and are thus deprived of a livelihood. Beekeeping is so important as it offers an alternative means of income. However, income from beekeeping comes just once or twice a year and people will need to save, reinvest and borrow to make their beekeeping income revolve throughout the year. Formal credit institutions are not an option for those without collateral and this is where Bees for Development can help!

Our aim is to:

• Train 240 young families to start beekeeping

• Set up 12 Village Savings and Loans Groups.

• Encourage diversified economic activity to alleviate poverty.

Our ‘Helping Young Ethiopians Save for their Future’ campaign will make a significant difference to the impact we can achieve in our work in Ethiopia.
