Bees for Development Ghana Donates Bicycles to School Children in Afram Plains

Dr Kwame Aidoo, Director of Bees for Development Ghana, has donated ten bicycles to school children who walk long distances to access education. Two pupils who received a bike previously walked over 12km to school every day.
The bicycles, purchased using the cash prize from the Dr Kwame’s recent JoyNews Impact Marker award, are expected to ease the daily commute for these students, allowing them to reach school early and more comfortably. In addition, six of the ten pupils who received bicycles are members of the newly established Buzz Clubs, further supporting their involvement in sustainable beekeeping and environmental conservation activities.
During the handover ceremony, both parents and pupils expressed their deep appreciation for the gesture. The donation not only underscores the Bees for Development Ghana’s commitment to education and community development but also highlights the broader impact of recognition programmes like the JoyNews Impact Marker award, which empower individuals to give back to their communities in meaningful ways.

Walking to school every day was tiring, and sometimes I would be late because the distance is far. Now with this bicycle, I can get to school on time and still have energy to focus on my studies. My parents are very happy because they were worried about me walking alone for so long.

This bicycle is a big help to my family. We don’t have money to buy one, so this gift means a lot. Before, I had to wake up very early to start my long walk to school. With this bicycle, I will have more time to study and help at home. My family is so grateful for this help.

These heartfelt responses highlight the positive impact the bicycles will have on the pupils’ daily lives and their families’ well-being. This initiative is a continuation of Bees for Development Ghana’s ongoing efforts to support and uplift communities in the Kwahu Afram Plains, where access to resources and infrastructure can be challenging. By reducing the physical barriers to education, the donation of these bicycles is poised to positively impact the lives of these children.
