The specialist international beekeeping organisation

The Uganda National Apiculture Development Organisation-TUNADO

The Uganda National Apiculture Development Organisation is a membership Apex body coordinating the Apiculture industry in Uganda mandated by the government of Uganda under the Ministry of Agriculture Animal Industry and Fisheries. We recognise that to bring about lasting progress in the honey and beekeeping sector we need to build national beekeeping institutions to take the lead in delivering change. This is why we have supported The Uganda National Apiculture Development Organisation [TUNADO] for nearly fifteen years. We have provided guidance for the Board of Directors on governance, advice about the membership structure of the organisation, how to become financially self-sustaining and the need to deliver appropriate and timely services to members based on their needs. The Director of TUNADO, Dickson Biryomumaisho and the membership officer of TUNADO, Allon Bomujuni were awarded Commonwealth Professional Fellowships in 2015 and 2016 respectively being hosted by Bees for Development on a programme of professional development. This opportunity gave Dickson and Allon work experience and exposure to better enable them build the beekeeping sector in Uganda and the membership base of TUNADO. Some of TUNADO's are;

  • To bring together all apiculture stakeholders country wide under one umbrella body to ease coordination and improve the performance of the Apiculture Industry
  • To raise awareness of the importance and value of Apiculture to the National economy
  • To promote Ugandan honey and other hive products in the region and internationally
  • To assist in the standardisation of Uganda honey to meet international standards
  • To establish an information centre that assists in research and development of the Apiculture Industry
