Research and Consulting

Bees for Development has generated a substantial and credible body of knowledge on sustainable beekeeping. Our direct engagement with beekeepers, practitioners and scientists through our network and research projects underpins this expertise. Our practical projects demonstrate the potential of beekeeping to make success stories of stronger livelihoods, greater biodiversity and healthier bees, bringing credibility to current theories and identifying best practice.

We work hard to continually add to the evidence base for the role of bees in development and researching the merits and drawbacks of different approaches is therefore an important strand of our work. Research into, and evidence for, sustainable beekeeping practices is undertaken in partnership with academic institutions and NGOs.

Recent applied research includes market and situation analyses of honey trading in Sudan and Uganda.

We recently completed a ground-breaking research project in India seeking to understand the interdependencies between bees, biodiversity and forest livelihoods in the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve of the Western Ghats, India.

Through our Information Portal we publish apicultural research findings from around the world on subjects as diverse as biology, sociology and economics. We are pleased to share research with our international audience. To submit an article, please contact us.
