This week the BBC Radio 4 Appeal is featuring Bees for Development Trust. The Appeal is presented by Trust Patron and beekeeper, Martha Kearney. Martha has kept bees for around seven years, honey from her two hives makes her popular with friends and family she confides. She particularly enjoys seeing bee hives when travelling abroad.

"I was given a beehive as a wedding present and haven't looked back. Honey bees are amazing creatures and it's wonderful that they can be used to help boost incomes in the developing world" said Martha Kearney. The first broadcast was at 07:55 on BBC Radio 4 FM on Sunday March 6, and at 21.25 pm. The Appeal will be broadcast also on Thursday 10 March at 15.27pm.
"We're delighted that Martha has agreed to present our BBC Radio 4 Appeal, and we're hoping that our message will reach many listeners throughout the UK" said Nicola Bradbear, founder of Bees for Development. Bees for Development Trust hope to achieve two key aims through the appeal; raising of funds to enable the ongoing work of the charity in supporting rural communities to find ways out of poverty through beekeeping, and also to raise awareness of sustainable beekeeping and the beneficial impacts it can have on rural livelihoods, maintaining biodiversity and the empowerment of women.
A donation of £3 pounds a month means Bees for Development can send a regular journal, full of information and practical advice, to someone in the developing world, like Prosper, - including them in the Bees for Development network. Bees for Development responds to requests from individuals and communities all over the world, and with your help they can expand this unique service.
Two donations of £25 pounds provide a school or training centre with a box of beekeeping training materials which can then be used many times, over many years.
For a week from 6 March 2011 you can give online through the BBC Radio 4 Appeal website, or by calling 0800 404 8144. You can also give by clicking Donate, today.
