Ten tenets for the beekeeper

There are ten ways in which BEEKEEPERS can become sustainable:

• DO maintain nest scent and heat
• DO overwinter bees on their own honey
• DO allow bees to build drone comb
• DO allow natural reproduction through swarming
• DO enable local adaptation of bees
• DO think beyond your own colony - about the whole local population of bees

• DON'T move bees
• DON'T re-use comb
• DON'T import queens or bees
• DON'T use prophylactic treatments
