A 2-dimensional TLC method, using polyamide as the stationary phase, is described for the determination of amino acids in pollens.  the sample is digested withHCl and tungstic acid, and then derivatized with dansyl chloride.  Two developingsolvents, benzene-HOAc (9 : 1.7) and formic acid-water (1.5 : 100) are  used in the TLC, fluorescence spectrophototometry (excitation wavelength 360 nm, emission wavelength 510nm) is used for measurement of separated amino acids receovered from the TLC plate.  the pollen samples analysed had high proline contents (5.44 - 153.37mg%).  Contents of essential amino acids are reported.
