Insect visitors to flowering plum trees were observed at Ludhiana, Punjab, India; honeybees were the main pollinators. Apis dorsata constituted 44.9% of all honeybee visitors, A. mellifera 40.7% and A.florea 14.4%. A. dorsata started visiting flowers at around 09.00 h, and A. mellifera from around 10.00 h; activity was greatest from 11.00 to 13.00 h.
Only half of the 26 cultivars studied set fruit, and only 4 of these set fruit on flowers which were bagged to exclude insects.
